Comments are off in the Gallery

April 15th, 2007

Due to spammers, I have turned off Gallery comments. It’s finals time for me, and I don’t have time to investigate anti spam software for Gallery. If this is a big deal for you - let me know and I’ll find some solutions.

Everybody into the Pool!

September 24th, 2006

Everything on Blueshoe.ca should be up and running now. Some thanks go to the Giff and Shawna for nudging me in the direction of dealing with it. Now you should find that everything that was working is working. Now some things might be slightly different and you may need to install a new blog theme, but it’s all up and running.

As usual let me know if I can help you with anything. I’ll do my best to respond quickly and cheerfully! :-)

Hurrah!

Things Have Changed!

August 17th, 2006

The more astute users will be able to tell something is different with blueshoe. I have moved the site from our old lovable Judy to a new hosting service. This means faster webpage loading / email retrieving, and better uptime. Also it means more updated software because I don’t gotta do it myself! :-P

Some of you will notice your e-mail accounts and blogs look or act differently. If you use webmail your new process is thus.

EMAIL: Click the webmail link, enter your whole e-mail address as username (so you’d be bob@blueshoe.ca instead of bob) and your password. Lastly click on the squirrelmail icon if to get the webmail interface you’re already used to. Check out the others if you feel like. They’re new options and won’t hurt anything. If you are using an e-mail client, you will also need to change your username to your whole e-mail address.

BLOGS: If you’ve been using a movabletype weblog your blog has been or will be shortly moved over. Please check out these themes if you’d like change the look of your site. Please ask me for your new username and password for the blog - these will have changed. Lastly check over your blog to make sure everything is as it should be. If there’s a problem talk to me. If you’ve been using a wordpress blog the shift shouldn’t be as big of a deal, but your username, and password and links will need to be revisited.

GALLERY: I’m workin’ on it!! :-D

What’s next…? It’s up to you!

May 2nd, 2006

Hi Everyone.. (anyone?)

In the next few months I’ll be nearby Judy (host of blueshoe.ca) and will give her a good dusting and a total shutdown and upgrade. Modern server software will allow me to install some newer applications that just aren’t (easily) compatible with the old somewhat proprietary clarkconnect I’m still running. :P

There will be a little bit of downtime for this. Hopefully I’m good enough to make it be only a day or so. Emails and things will be very safe in this scenario (email takes a full week to bounce completely though senders may get the ‘having trouble sending, but not failed’ message from their ISPs.)

So with new software comes new opportunity. Is there something you’d like to be able to do on/with blueshoe.ca? Be creative and wacky. Maybe there’s a solution out there, and for giggles I’d be happy to work on getting it put in.

Anyways, think about it and please please email or comment any suggestions.

xx’s

New Blog Style!

October 27th, 2005

You just might have noticed a change or two around here. Happily for blueshoe I had a totally lazy day during which I set up new blogging software, Wordpress. I would like to have this up and running for a little while to see how well it blocks sp@m. If it’s a winner then I will set it up for any other people who might be interested in switching over.

Please look for the register button on the right hand column to make an account so you can comment, or even post to this page.

Meanwhile take a look, play with it, try (not too hard!) to break it and let me know what you think. (Comment please! I want to know if I’m doing the right thing here!)

Release the Candidates!

August 11th, 2005

I have upgraded the a couple of things on blueshoe.

Webmail has been upgraded from a release candidate to an actual full version. My apologies for leaving it so long in a late beta. I didn’t have any problems save one, which isn’t changed in the current version anyways. I guess no one else has had any troubles or I hopefully would have heard about it.

I am thinking of setting up new blogging software. I’m running a slightly old version of movabletype for two reasons: It’s free, and it’s still working. However having done some recent research I have discovered there are some newer software packages that offer more advanced authoring solutions.

Let me know if you’re interested in testing the one I have in mind out. I’ll set it up and migrate your current blogs over for you. From a readers perspective it has the opportunity to look very different and slick because far more people are writing style sheets for current software releases.

Also the gallery software has been upgraded (again from a candidate release.. bad me ;) ) Ask me if you want a photo gallery for your digital camera. :-)

Everybody needs a home..

May 1st, 2005

I am currently looking for offers to keep the blueshoe server. I, for the most part, can administrate remotely and judy largely looks after herself. However she requires a few things.

1) Power. 110-120v 60hz please. (standard north american socket)

2) Highspeed internet access. Ethernet cable supplied. Not much bandwidth is used but as blueshoe.ca is a ‘gray-area’ server, it’s best to have a low to moderate internet user who doesn’t attract the Sauron’s gaze of his or her ISP.

3) Security. judy needs to be in a reasonably safe location. Storing in an oven, or by the toilet should be avoided. Likewise if you regualily have break and enters, perhaps you’re not the best candidate.

4) Stability. judy likes a stable household so she doesn’t have to move around a lot, to keep downtime to a minimum.

5) Chocolate. Every girl likes chocolate. Okay.. I’m kidding on this one.

Perks! If you’re kind enough to take in judy as your resident orphan server I’ll provide you with the following:

1) My thanks. Also the thanks of many blueshoe users who without your help would be out an e-mail address and a blog.

2) A linux high-grade kickass firewall. I haven’t had a virus in years people. Years. (this is optional)

3) Your very own network drive for extra storage of those files you’ve always wanted to keep around, but are too big for your puny 40gig drive. (optional as well)

4) Lightening fast access to blueshoe.ca. Because I can physically locate judy between you and the internet you’ll get LAN speeds to all her data. Blueshoe.ca will act like it’s cached locally. Weee!

5) Chocolate. But, I’ll just be sharing the chocolate you’ve already given judy.

Please submit any questions or offers to mrashley_-_at_-_blueshoe_-_dot_-_ca

Thanks.

Breaking the cycle (of spam.. )

January 16th, 2005

In order to curb comment spam, which is becoming a problem around here, I’ve implimented a new policy. It seems like all the spam is put into old old blogs, so I’m closing down all comments on blogs older than X days.

Let me know if you find this problematic. I don’t think it will be, but I’d like to know if it is.

Meanwhile I’m also going to swallow my overly complex dreams and not be so difficult with the new page design. I’ll be rolling it out shortly.

Big Hugs

From Nathan:

December 19th, 2004

So for those who may care, I have decided to throw another shindig this year to mark the birth of 2005.
I don’t know about the magnatude of it yet, but if I can find some place to hide the cats, then let’s try to rival the Halloween party! (But leave all windows intact)
So spread the word, come if you can, bring some friends, have some fun and ring in the new year.
XOXO
Nathan
